New passport requirement on Aer Lingus flights between Ireland and the UK 

From 25 February 2026, we are also updating our travel document requirements for flights between Ireland and the UK.

All customers (including Irish and British nationals) travelling on Aer Lingus and Aer Lingus Regional services between Ireland and the UK will require a valid passport or Irish passport card to check in for and to board their flight, in both directions. Other forms of photo ID cards will no longer be accepted.

This does not apply to Aer Lingus Regional flights between Belfast and other parts of the UK or between Dublin and Donegal.


Aer Lingus Regional - Belfast routes

Photo ID requirements remain unchanged on domestic UK routes operated by Emerald Airlines between Belfast and other parts of the UK.

Acceptable photo ID for Irish and UK nationals for travel on domestic UK routes only remains unchanged.

* valid passport or Irish Passport Card
* driver's license with photo (provisional or full)
* International Student Identity Card
* government issued photo ID cards
* health insurance cards with photo/social security cards with photo
* bus pass with photo, Work ID with photo
* valid UK armed forces' identity card
* valid UK police warrant card/badge.


Nationals of Ireland and the UK under the age of 16 don't need photo ID on domestic UK routes only when travelling with their parent or guardian.
